OnBuy is a UK-founded marketplace growing fast by doing things Amazon doesn't: charging no listing fees, not selling its own competing products, and focusing exclusively on the UK. For merchants already on Amazon and eBay, OnBuy is an incremental opportunity with low setup cost.
What makes OnBuy different
- No listing fees: Only commission on completed sales (5–9% by category). No monthly fee at base level.
- No own-brand competition: Amazon promotes its own products aggressively. OnBuy doesn't sell anything itself — every sale goes to a third-party seller.
- UK-only focus: Less international competition, more focused search experience for UK shoppers.
How OnBuy catalogue matching works
OnBuy has a product catalogue similar to Amazon's ASIN system. When you upload a product with an EAN barcode, OnBuy attempts to match it to an existing catalogue entry. Matched listings attach to the existing product page. Unmatched listings create new catalogue entries.
This is why EAN accuracy matters more on OnBuy than on many other channels. An incorrect EAN means you either fail to match the correct catalogue entry or create a duplicate (reducing listing quality score).

Pricing strategy for OnBuy
Price at or below Amazon for products you sell on both — OnBuy shoppers are price-aware. Factor in OnBuy commission (5–9%) when setting your price floor. In Trajekt, you can apply OnBuy-specific pricing rules — adding a margin buffer over your standard price to offset commission while staying competitive.
