Product images are the most visible element of any Shopping ad. Before a shopper reads your title or price, they've evaluated your image. Yet image quality is one of the most neglected aspects of feed management — primarily because most merchants assume their website images are good enough. Often they're not.
Google Shopping
Minimum: 100x100px (non-apparel), 250x250px (apparel). Recommended: 800x800px minimum for Shopping, 1200x1200px+ for Performance Max (large display formats). Avoid: watermarks, promotional text, borders. Apparel: show on model or mannequin, neutral background.
ChatGPT Shopping
Recommended: 800px+ square, HTTPS URLs only. Supports additional_image_urls (up to 4) — multiple angles improves completeness signal for ChatGPT's product evaluation.
Meta (Facebook & Instagram)
Minimum: 500x500px (enforced, rejected below this). Recommended: 1080x1080px square for Dynamic Product Ads. Up to 20 images per product via additional_image_link — more images give Meta's algorithm more creative options across ad formats.
TikTok
Recommended: 800x800px+ square for catalogue ads. The vertical opportunity: TikTok is a 9:16 vertical platform. If you have 1080x1920px vertical shots, include them — TikTok heavily rewards content that natively fits its format.
Recommended: 1000x1500px (2:3 vertical ratio). Pinterest is the platform where dimensions have the biggest commercial impact — a vertical image occupies twice the visual space of a square image in Pinterest's grid. More space = more attention = more clicks.
Microsoft/Bing Shopping
Minimum: 220x220px. Recommended: 800px+ — same as Google Shopping.
When your images don't meet requirements
- Rule-based image selection: If products have multiple images at different orientations, Trajekt rules can select the most appropriate per channel — the vertical image for Pinterest, the high-res square for Google PMax.
- Additional image links: Provide channels with more creative options without changing your primary image.
- Background removal: AI-powered tools (remove.bg) can quickly produce clean-background shots for Google and Meta without a full photoshoot.
Image validation included in every Trajekt feed
Trajekt validates image URLs are accessible and meet minimum requirements before feed submission — flagging issues before they become disapprovals.
